| What is the difference between a manager and a leader? |
A manager differs from a leader. The former is responsible for activities related to decision-making and formulating goals, recruiting the required manpower and utilizing it efficiently to guarantee the institution’s growth and stability. This takes place through a number of main managerial tasks, namely planning, organization, guidance and monitoring. In general, managers have a full range of experience, skills and capabilities, “mostly acquired through education, training, on-hand experience, and is not considered a hereditary ability in an individual.”
Meanwhile, a leader uses personally abilities, presence and strength “to influence the behavior of employees, as well as their views and tendencies, and leads them towards achieving specific goals.” Leadership is different from management in that it can be acquired, provided that the intuitive willingness and required skills are available in an individual, and the opposite goes for management. Thus, a political leader or our seniors at work, whom we like, may have been born with these influential leadership abilities. The affect is doubled if the leader hones skills through learning more leadership arts. Former US President Bill Clinton is considered one of the most prominent leaders of the 21st century, in the testimony of many of his rivals, because he has the ability to “encourage and guide people” towards specific goals. |
